Ever
heard of the "Thin Blue Line"? In policing, it's known as the
hypothetical divider between the police and civilians-- or, more
precisely, criminals within society. It represents the brotherhood of
law enforcement officers; a sense of camaraderie, loyalty and trust.
"Us" versus "them." Some would argue the code goes too far-- like
when a police officer goes bad and his brethren refuse to turn him in.
I would suggest that truckers have a similar fraternal bond embodied
by such organizations like OOIDA. You might call it the "Double
Yellow Line." It's the "Double Yellow Line" that sets professional
drivers apart from other, sometimes competing, interests within the
Industry and other drivers on the road such as commuters and soccer
moms. It represents the brotherhood of truckers, a code that truckers
don't break. Back when I was a DOT man, I never heard about a driver
log book violation from another trucker.
Over-the-road drivers work hard for varying pay, depending on their
carrier, equipment type, and status as a "company driver" or
"owner-operator". Truckers have earned my respect for who they are,
what they do, and how they keep America moving. But they also get
involved in educational programs for kids like "Trucker Buddy,"
national security/terrorism prevention programs like "Highway Watch",
and volunteer activities like Hurricane Relief. Pride is part of the
"Double Yellow Line." I am proud-- as a registered transportation
practitioner-- to serve trucker clients. Sometimes, a wise guy
corporate lawyer-colleague will poke fun at my chosen profession of
representing truckers before government agencies.
In the spirit of one time Vice-Presidential Candidate Lloyd Bentsen,
I'm quick to fire back: "I know truckers, I work for truckers,
truckers are my friends. You lawyers are no truckers."
I'm a trucker advocate on the trucker's side of the "Double Yellow
Line". I've been teaching drivers how to make big money in trucking
(and freight brokering) for some time now; that is, how to start
their own businesses, get operating authority or a broker's license,
operate safely and legally,
find shippers and freight, negotiate contracts and set freight rates.
I’ve turned thousands of truckers into carriers and brokers, workers
into businessmen.
In the process, I've gotten to
know truckers real well. I understand how truckers share common
concerns about issues like pay, fuel prices and surcharges, forced
dispatch, and spending long periods of time away from home. I know
their problems, their concerns... their dreams. I help them reach
those dreams.

someone else, if you're ready to be your own boss and achieve your
dream of making more money, visit www.dotauthority.com or call us
